Stress can manifest itself in many ways. Stress can be emotional, psychological or physiological. Our environment and how we manage stress in our daily lives directly impacts our health. According to the American Medical Association, stress is the cause of 80-85% of all human illness and disease.
When we think of stress, we think of stress related to our jobs, finances and interpersonal relationships. Our goal is to obtain balance in our lives but that’s never as easy as it sounds. Many people don’t even consider balance within their body. Even less of a consideration are the stressors we place on our bodies or the hidden stressors that stem from our environment and diet. Stressors we may not consider are:
Outdoor Pollutants such as pollen, smog, perfumes and exhaust
Indoor Pollutants such as dust, mold and VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) in paint, furniture, flooring and household cleaners
Pet Pollutants such as dander, feathers, fur, ammonia and waste
Processed foods and their additives including food dyes, preservatives, GMO (genetic modifications), hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, homogenization and pasteurization
Clothing, Bedding and Furniture covered in fire retardants, chemicals, synthetics and dyes
Household and Commercial Cleaners that utilize chlorine and ammonia
Water balanced to an improper PH and then fortified with fluoride, chlorine and containing potential toxins such as fertilizers, arsenic or heavy metals such as lead
Radiation and Emissions from electronic devices such as computers, cell phones and wireless devices
Consuming products from plastics or cans lined or utilizing BPA and other endocrine disruptors
This is but a small list of examples and when you really think about it, it’s unavoidable, even scary. From the clothes we wear to the food we eat the water we drink, the bed we sleep in and essentially everything we inhale and touch puts stress on our bodies.
In most cases, no one thing is going to throw the body out of balance. It’s the combination and the ongoing bombardment of stressors on the body that can overwhelm an individual and make them feel run down. It’s the cumulative effect that over time can create imbalances that lead to problems with your digestion, skin, sinuses, breathing, lack of energy, lack of focus and the varied forms of pain and inflammation that stem from these issues when they become chronic.
At BioVeda, we believe that if we can help alleviate stress on the body and bring the body back to balance, each individual will be better able to deal with the daily stressors in their lives.
